The Danger Of Small Compromises
Spiritual failure rarely begins with a dramatic decision. More often, it begins small.
Song Of Solomon 2:15
Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.
A neglected time in the Word.
A tolerated attitude.
A quiet compromise no one else notices.
Scripture calls these “little foxes.”
Individually, they seem insignificant. But left unchecked, they quietly damage what is growing.
The vineyard in this verse was in a season of early fruit—“tender grapes.” It was a time of growth and potential.
That is when the foxes were most dangerous.
The same is true spiritually.
When God is working in your life—when growth is beginning, when conviction is fresh—that is often when small compromises become most destructive.
The enemy rarely begins with obvious rebellion.
He starts with subtlety.
A little neglect.
A little distraction.
A little justification.
Over time, those small compromises weaken spiritual strength.
Conviction becomes quieter. Sensitivity to sin dulls. What once troubled the heart becomes easier to ignore.
That is how vineyards are spoiled.
Not overnight—but gradually.
The instruction in the verse is clear: “Take us the foxes.”
Deal with them early.
Do not excuse what God has convicted.
Do not ignore what the Spirit has revealed.
Do not delay obedience in the small things.
Faithfulness is built in the details.
The strength of your walk with God is not only determined by major decisions—it is shaped by daily choices.
Guard the vineyard.
