When Obedience Is Hard
Following Christ is not always easy.
Luke 9:23
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me
Jesus never presented discipleship as convenient or comfortable.
He spoke of denial.
He spoke of sacrifice.
He spoke of carrying a cross.
The cross was not a symbol of inconvenience in the first century. It was a symbol of surrender and death.
To “take up his cross daily” means choosing God’s will over our own desires—again and again.
There are moments when obedience feels costly.
Choosing truth may cost popularity.
Choosing integrity may cost opportunity.
Choosing faithfulness may cost comfort.
In those moments, the temptation is to compromise.
To take the easier path.
To delay obedience.
To justify a different choice.
But Jesus calls His followers to something higher.
Daily surrender.
Not occasional commitment.
Not selective obedience.
Daily.
The cost is real—but so is the reward.
Jesus continues in verse 24, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.”
What feels like loss in obedience is often the very path to true life.
God does not waste surrender.
Every act of obedience strengthens your walk, deepens your faith, and aligns your life with His purpose.
When obedience feels costly, remember the cross Christ carried for you…
…And follow Him
