Pruned - Growth Through Cutting
Part 5 in the devotional series on spiritual growth.
John 15:2
Every branch in me that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Pruning is not punishment.
It is preparation.
Jesus makes a surprising statement—God prunes branches that are already bearing fruit.
Not the failing ones.
The fruitful ones.
Why?
Because growth requires removal.
A branch left untouched will grow wild, not strong.
Pruning cuts away what is unnecessary so that what remains can grow stronger.
In life, pruning often looks like loss.
A closed door.
A removed opportunity.
A change you did not expect.
It can feel confusing.
“Why would God take this away if things were going well?”
But John 15 gives the answer:
“That it may bring forth more fruit.”
God sees what we cannot.
He knows what is limiting growth—even when it appears beneficial on the surface.
Pruning is painful because it removes what we have grown attached to.
But it is purposeful.
Nothing God removes is random.
Every cut is intentional.
Every removal is strategic.
If you are in a season where something has been taken away, do not assume God is against you.
He may be preparing you for deeper growth.
