When You Feel Overwhelmed
There are moments when life feels heavier than expected. Not just busy—but overwhelming.
Psalm 61:2
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Responsibilities stack up. Emotions run high. Situations feel beyond control. And in those moments, even simple decisions can feel difficult.
David describes that condition honestly: “when my heart is overwhelmed.”
He does not hide it. He does not minimize it.
He brings it directly to God.
Notice what he does not ask for.
He does not ask for immediate solutions.
He does not ask for circumstances to instantly change.
He asks to be led.
“Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
The thing with “overwhelm” is that it exposes our limits.
We reach a point where our strength, our understanding, and our control are no longer enough.
But that is exactly where faith begins to shift.
David does not try to stand on his own stability.
He asks to be lifted to something higher.
The “rock” represents something firm, unshakable, and secure.
God does not always remove overwhelming situations immediately.
But He provides a place of stability in the middle of them.
When everything feels uncertain, He remains steady.
When your thoughts feel scattered, He remains constant.
When your strength feels insufficient, His is not.
Overwhelm becomes dangerous when it keeps us focused on what we cannot carry.
But it becomes transformative when it leads us to the One who can.
If your heart feels overwhelmed today, do not try to manage everything alone.
Ask God to lead you to the rock.
